About: Carrie M. Marsh utilizes innovative urban design and land use planning practices to create places that matter. She is influenced by the Latin term, "genius loci," which means "spirit of place." Her focus is on projects that enhance and strengthen the unique energy and personality of a space.
Carrie is currently the Urban Designer for the City of Portland, Maine where her work includes the review of architectural designs, the creation of innovative design standards, oversight of the City’s public art program, and advocacy for various initiatives related to Portland's creative economy.
Carrie previously spent ten years in Providence, Rhode Island where she worked for Cornish Associates on its New Urbanist initiatives.
In Providence, Carrie was a founding Board Member of The Steel Yard, a former industrial site which now serves as a mixed-use arts facility. She served as an advisor on the reuse of Monohasset Mill for mixed income artist live/work studios. Carrie advocated for the conversion of the Eagle Square Mills to a mix of uses with artist spaces, rather than demolition.
